Following on from my last post I’d like mention Squash. It’s a great game. I personally like the fact that you get to play it in the winter in a heated facility… no mud. But, due to the fast, agile nature of squash, it's no wonder there are a higher prevalence of sprained ankles, calf muscle tears, back muscle strains, knee ligament sprains, and even Achilles tendon rupture. If you taken a knock, or strained or sprained yourself, come and see me. The sooner you get LLLT treatment, the faster your recovery.
Remember, a proper warm up before the game, followed by a proper warm down, will ensure you are less likely to suffer an injury. With the winter sports season in full swing, I’d like to highlight some of the injuries I see at this time of the year. More importantly, I’d like to highlight some simple preventative measures.
A groin strain is a tear or rupture to any of the adductor muscles on the inside of the thigh. Symptoms include a sudden sharp pain in the thigh which can range from a quite mild niggling injury to very severe injuries that are completely debilitating. Make sure that you have warmed up fully before starting play. This warm up phase should include long, slow stretch and hold activities... I’m not talking a 20-second stretch, I’m talking a two-minute stretch. If your body is warm and well stretched, you are less likely to suffer an injury and more likely to enjoy your game. If you do suffer from a groin strain, RICE does work, and come see me. I can help you. Pre-season games are happening now, as the winter sports season kicks off, and hopefully everyone has done enough pre-season training. Bodies will be lean, fit and well-stretched... In an ideal world this would be the case. 😊 I want to raise the issue of head injuries... These are not always obvious, they are not always a consequence of a knock-out; rather, they can be caused by high speed impact (such as a tackle). Whip lash also contributes to brain injuries. Just because you can’t see it doesn’t mean it not there. If you have suffered from a head injury or think you have taken a significant knock then take a look at the following. It may be that laser therapy is a great option. It's pain-free and fast, with no side effects. https://www.thorlaser.com/video/#information-videos Image from Wikipedia.
