With the winter sports season in full swing, I’d like to highlight some of the injuries I see at this time of the year. More importantly, I’d like to highlight some simple preventative measures.
A groin strain is a tear or rupture to any of the adductor muscles on the inside of the thigh. Symptoms include a sudden sharp pain in the thigh which can range from a quite mild niggling injury to very severe injuries that are completely debilitating. Make sure that you have warmed up fully before starting play. This warm up phase should include long, slow stretch and hold activities... I’m not talking a 20-second stretch, I’m talking a two-minute stretch. If your body is warm and well stretched, you are less likely to suffer an injury and more likely to enjoy your game. If you do suffer from a groin strain, RICE does work, and come see me. I can help you. |
